My Cello lessons
Learning to play the cello is about much more than mastering an instrument. It is a journey of curiosity, creativity, discipline, and self-expression. My goal is to create a supportive and inspiring environment where every student feels encouraged to grow, discover their own musical voice, and experience the joy of making music.
Whether you are taking your very first steps or returning to the cello after many years, lessons are shaped around your individual goals, interests, and learning pace.
My Teaching Philosophy
I believe that every student has their own way of learning. There is no single path that works for everyone, which is why I place the individual at the centre of every lesson.
A strong technical foundation is essential, but technique is never the final goal. It is the tool that allows us to communicate, tell stories, and express ourselves through music.
Alongside technical development, I encourage creativity, attentive listening, musical curiosity, and confidence. Depending on each student's interests, lessons may include classical repertoire, film music, folk music, pop, improvisation, chamber music, and creative projects.
Above all, I want my students to enjoy learning, to feel proud of their progress, and to develop a lifelong connection with music.
How My Lessons Work
Lessons are available in 30, 45, or 60-minute formats, depending on the student's age, experience, and individual goals.
Rather than following a fixed method, I build each lesson around the person sitting in front of me. Every student learns differently, and discovering the best path for each individual is one of the aspects of teaching I enjoy most. While every lesson is tailored to the student, it is always guided by clear pedagogical goals. I carefully plan each student's learning journey, breaking long-term objectives into achievable steps that provide structure, continuity, and a clear sense of progress.

Some students begin their musical journey with me, while others return to the cello after many years or continue to develop at an already advanced level.
I truly believe that it is never too early and never too late to start playing the cello!

I currently teach at Musikschule Kanton Schaffhausen, Yamaha Music School Zürich, and privately in Zürich city, each of which enriches my work as an educator.

I have been taking private cello lessons with María for the past year and a half in addition to participating in an ensemble group. As an adult learner, learning the cello is a difficult and at times daunting challenge, but nonetheless I leave my weekly lessons with María in a better mood than when I arrived at the school. María is an extremely patient teacher who provides constructive advice and practical exercises to help improve technique; as well as providing additional insight into aspects of music theory for those like myself, who lack the background knowledge. Most importantly of all, the past 18 months learning the cello with María have been not just rewarding but also fun!

Feedback on individual lessons: Very well structured. I love it when we do improvisation 😊 (I wish we could do it even more often!). The choice of pieces is great, and they are always well matched to my level. Feedback on the ensemble: I like that everyone gets the chance to play a different part. The choice of music is great, and I enjoy starting each rehearsal by warming up with scales. The games at the beginning are really fun, the repertoire suits everyone's taste, and it's always enjoyable and relaxed to make music together with other people.
